Day 9 – Agrigento to The Igloos!

Today was the day we were going to finally see our Igloos!  No, not structures built out of ice, but our beautiful igloo shaped villa that awaited us around 2 1/2 hours away in Plemmirio, close to Syracuse.  We will be spending the second week of our honeymoon there, and plan to chill out with the occasional day trip included.

After a nice breakfast and some negotiation on the room price, we set off from our B&B to visit the Scala dei Turchi (a beautiful rock face of white rock that is in the form of steps right down to and under the sea), but we quickly hit stationary traffic, which was presumably queuing to visit what we were.  Although we were only 2km away from the cliffs, we thought it could take a few hours even to get there, and then by that time, we’d have been late to meet with Dario to collect the keys to our villa.  We decided that it’ll be another reason to visit Sicily again in the future anyway! 🙂

So, after making a swift turn in the road, we headed on back through Agrigento and on to the empty motorways.  The landscape and bridges once again proved impressive and the driving of the Sicilians was yet again interesting.

The scenery across Sicily is so varied, but stunning wherever you go.  Also, as if driving in Sicily wasn’t challenging enough, there was a stretch of motorway that didn’t have any road markings!

After making a shopping trip for supplies (it’s Ferragosto this weekend in Italy, which would probably explain the queue to the cliffs this morning), we headed along quiet coastal roads to find our villa and be introduced to it by our contact, Dario.  After a couple of wrong guesses of which tiny road it was down, we managed to find it, and after running through all the do’s and don’ts, spared no time in unpacking the car and getting into the pool!!

Due to Ferragosto, the next couple of days will mostly be spent chilling out and maybe a trip out to a supermarket to top up on the essentials.  We’ll do a full tour of the villa as well, because it’s vast, and all ours! 🙂  Drone footage will be taken as well, naturally.
